to follow up on the hair thing...
shampoo:
i was using natures gate "the original" shampoo - it can be found in most healthfood stores and it is a lovely green color in a clear bottle.
conditioner:
after washing, i would condition in with a mixture of unrefined shea butter and herb infused oil.
ingredients: lavender, nettle, sage, peppermint, horsetail, comfrey, calendula, olive oil, unrefined shea butter
put the herbs- bought at the healthfood store for about $5 for all of it- in a mason jar with the oil. let steep in the cabinet for about a week. strain through a tea strainer or old stocking or whatever. put the infused oil in a pot with some chunks of pure shea butter- put over a pot of boiling water to melt slowly- once all melted, you have this creamy, herby, lovely substance.
i would rub that through my hair and either twist it up or just shake my head and go.
now that its longer, i condition with mizani conditioner (main reason being that i like the smell) mixed with olive oil. i let that sit on my hair for about a half an hour under a plastic cap, then comb it out with this still in it. then, rinse, pat with a towel so its still damp, use the shea butter mixture as a hair dressing/pomade/what have you, and then either put in either tiny twists and wear like that or big twists to take out later.
it is very healthy, and very thick!!!

mmmmm... it's like a homemade carol's daughter conditioner. yum. i'll have to try that for miss z.

Thanks for the conditioner recipe. I used to use Mizani for years when I first went natural but now really love Elucence conditioner its out of this world and all natural.

af.mum- yeah, sorta kinda! know what i really like by that company?! the ecstasy jelly on my hair for shine (i use it on the babys hair too) and the shea butter skin smoothie for after washing(for the baby only) back when lisa made an unscented body milk, i used to use that in my hair as a moisturizer. the lavender milk might be a great consistency for a daily hair moisture for z!
e.m- i have never heard of elucence, but i plan to look it up! where do you buy it? health food store? on line?

I have yet to find Elucence in person so I had to order it online- you can purchase it here: http://www.pleasantimage.com
www.elucence.com is the website for the product and they have a Salon list so you can maybe find it locally.

You can buy Elucence at very good prices if you go to the trade shows. I bought it at the National Home Show in Toronto at a great price, and they recommended always buying it at the shows--they always have specials there. You can call them and find out what trade shows they'll be taking part in, and when and where they'll be held.
