okay, i am loving, loving LOVING the show "the backyardigans" that comes on nick, jr. it is the cutest, lively, creative KIDS MUSICAL that i have seen in a long, long time.
i discovered it quite by accident. one morning in the wee, wee hours, i needed to amuse muppet so i turned on nickelodeon. there was this cutesy show in which the characters were playing polka music and saying "gip! gip! gip! gip! (something something something) the worman polka!" they were singing in kiddie voices and the whole thing was just so darn cute. i started singing along....
fast forward to about a week ago...
i stayed up and watched nick to try to find out what show that was. i found out that it was the backyardigans (concept: 5 little animated animal kids all play in their backyards and have pretend adventures... and the show is a friggin musical! i love it!) but that wasnt enough for me, i wanted to see the polka episode so i could learn the song and sing it to muppet. (keep your laughing at a minimum, people! she likes my singing voice and i like uncommon songs! pbbblllttt!) so i set the dvr to record all episodes of the show in addition to doing a web search for "backyardigan lyrics." well, i didnt find the lyrics, but found the name of the episode along with the fact that they have a dvd out called "its great to be a ghost." the title didnt interest me that much as i dont really do the "spooky" thing for kids...
fast forward to today...
i got the polka episode saved (they are actually saying "yip" not "gip" but, whatever) and also, among other episodes, the ghost one. so i watched "its great to be a ghost." AND IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST CARTOON EPISODES I HAVE EVER SEEN. nah, yall have to hear me out. it was cool! the music was like... harlem 1910-1930's swing jazz type music and they were dancing like they were on broadway. and the pink polka dotted character had a great singing voice... yall, the moose started tap dancing... i was FLOORED!!!! muppet is SO getting that dvd for her birthday! if you get a chance, please take a look at this show. muppet was smiling and bouncing along to the music (i play lotsa jazz for her normally, i wonder if she recognized the style of music? or maybe i am the typical mom thinking my child is brilliant? hee hee)
loving loving loving it. backyardigans. who knew?
okay, now a question. if yall let your little ones watch tv, what type of shows do they watch? (my other fav is little bill. i used to like caillou, but he sets a bad example for behavior. i am so anal sometimes.)

I got It's Great To Be A Ghost on netflix. My kids love The Backyardigans. I do too. My daughter likes Go Diego Go which I am not in love with but like more than Dora. She also likes Kipper, Miffy, and Little Bear. I can't *stand* Caillou.

I love Backyardigans! You know a sista is the creator of the show? I love the cowboy episode, we always dance with it and it kills me everytime Tyrone starts doing the reebok and cabbage patch. I *detest* Cailou, his whiny voice is like nails on a chalkboard to me. We like Little Bill and my son's new favorite is Little Einstein lots of great classical music.

d- little bear is a good one, it reminds me of a show i used to watch back when i was little called "kissyfur." i love the way the father bear talks to the cub. real gentle and kind.
y- i didnt know that!!! but it explains a lot! speaking of tyrone, in the ghost episode, when he starts to tapdance??? i was floored! i made hubby watch it and he was tickled by tasha dancing like a "flapper." i love it!
the big question, what in the heck is uniqua???!!! guess that is why her name is "unique." haha.

Hi-- I found your blog googling "backyardigan lyrics." They just aren't out there!
My 68 yr old FATHER discovered Backyardigans flipping through the channels one day-- he stopped because of the jazz. My daughter is 14-- we don't even have any toddlers in our family-- and she and I were singing Backyardigan's songs (the Pirate episode) in the car this morning! He has the entire family hooked :) and it drives me crazy when I can't remember the words.
Anyway-- just wanted to stop and say Hi. It's good to know we're not the only adults getting into Backyardigans :). At least you have a little one to blame it on! :) :)

I reviewed the Worman Polka song and the words "yip yip yip" and "gip gip gip" are both used throughout the song. As a previous message inidcated that only "yip yip yip" is used is dangeriously wrong and the reviewer should listen more intently to the entire song.
